Hibiscus syriacus - Shrub Althea or Rose of Sharon

Leaves - Alternate, simple, 3-lobed, 2-4 inches long, often coarsely toothed margin, deep green in summer which hold late.

Buds - Not very evident; usually occupied by the scars of fallen inflorescence

Fruit - A dehiscent capsule.

Flower - White to red to purple, 2-4 inches across July through September and solitary on new years growth.

Growth Habit - Shrub or small free - erect, but occasionally spreading.
