Leaves - Opposite, simple, toothed, ovate to oblong ovate, glabrous except bearded in the axils of the veins beneath and sometimes hairy on the veins.
Twigs - Glabrous, peeling freely after first year and dark chestnut brown in color.
Growth Habit - Medium to large shrub of upright often arching habit of growth.
Flowers - 4 petaled, white, very fragrant, borne in 5-7 flowered racemes.
Fruit - 4 valved dehiscent capsule.
