Larix decidua - European Larch

Growth Habit - Pyramidal, with central leader, later often with an irregular head.

Needles - Needle-like, flattened, fine texture, about 1” long, bright green in color and yellowish fall color,
              the species name decidua denotes the deciduous leaf condition, uncommon in gymnosperms.

Cones - Not borne until after 20 years, purple in color, ovoid, 1 to 1 1/2 inches long and erect on
            stems.
