Betula pendula - European White Birch
Leaves - Alternate, simple, 1 1/4-3" long, apex-acuminate, base acuminate or truncate, double serrate, glabrous.
Buds - Imbricate, curved, pointed, brownish-black
Stem - Glabrous, resinous-glandular, brown
Bark - Whitish, does not peel (exfoliate)
to degree of Paper Birch. With age, trunk becomes black
with relatively small amounts of white bark showing.
Fruit - Small nutlet produced in wide cylindrical catkins.
