Quercus rubra - Northern Red Oak

Leaves - Alternate, simple, curneate at base with 7 to 11 lobes, dark green leaf color above with
             axillary tufts of brownish hairs beneath.

Buds - lmbricate, chestnut brown and sharp pointed with scales that are slightly hairy.

Habit - Rounded in youth and in old age, often round topped and symmetrical.

Bark - On older plants, brown to nearly black, becoming ridged and furrowed with age.

Fruit - Nut solitary or paired, enclosed at base by a flat thick saucer like cup, nut is medium
          brown with grayish streaks.
