Identification Characteristics - Phellodendron to Tilia

Phellodendron amurense - Amur Corktree

Leaves - Opposite, pinnately compound, 5-13 leaflets, ovate to lanceolate, 2-4" long,
             long acuminate, rounded or narrowed at base, dark green and lustrous above,
             glabrous beneath or with a few hairs along the base of the midrib.

Buds - Solitary, half-ellipsoid, compressed from the sides, silky with red or bronzed
          hairs so as to make the overlapping of the two scales, enclosed by base of petiole.

Stem - Stout, orange-yellow or yellowish gray, lenticels prominent, leaf scars
           horseshoe-shaped, raised, rather large with bud setting in the “U” formed
           by the leaf scar.

Bark - Light gray, corky, deeply fissured.

Fruit - A black, subglobose drupe with strong turpentine-like odor when bruised.
