SALICACEAE

Populus deltoides - Cottonwood

Leaves - Alternate, simple, deltoid-ovate or broad-ovate, acuminate, subcordate to
             truncate with 2 or 3 glands at base, 3-5” long coarsely crenate-dentate with
             curved teeth, entire at base and apex, densely ciliate, bright green below, glabrous.

Buds - lmbricate, 1/2-3/4” long, conical, acute, shiny chestnut brown, resinous.

Stem - Stout, yellowish to greenish-yellow, smooth, round or marked, especially on
           vigorous trees with more or less prominent wings running down from the two
           sides and bases of the leaf scars.
