SALICACEAE

Salix caprea - Goat Willow

Leaves - Alternate, simple, broad-elliptic to oblong, 2-4” long, acute, rarely rounded at
             base, irregularly and slightly toothed or nearly entire, pubescent at first, finally
             glabrate rugulose and dark green above, gray-pubescent beneath and reticulate;
             petiole 1/3-2/3” long, stipules oblique-reniform, serrate.

Stem - Stout yellowish brown to dark brown - pubescent to glabrescent.

Flowers - Catkins.

Salix caprea is not the true Pussy Willow, Salix discolor is the true Pussy Willow, however
S. caprea is sold as such because of the large catkins.
